Besses most up to date comment
I managed to get to Band last night after a long time away.
The Bandroom has been re decorated and cleaned up by a combination of players from Besses and Besses Boys, and the band formation has been adjusted to the taste of the new MD, James Holt (also MD of Besses Boys and Stockport Schools and the hotest name on the scene).
We were rehearsed through the programme for the concert this Sunday, along with any deps booked to fill the seats of our regulars that are currently on vacation.
AND
It sounded and felt fantastic.
Well done to everyone for all their efforts and commitment.
Well done James for stepping up and being a revelation.
It is all very promising

Great Site!!
I was principal trombone with the band in the 1980's joining in 1982 and leaving in 1987, although I continued to dep at all the major contests with the band for the following 3-4 years. I have some treasured memories of my time with the band, not least the two tours to the Lieksa Brass week in Finland (1983 and 1986) and the high profile music festivals we performed at. The web site looks great and I'm delighted that the band is now full and improving - bring back those glory years!! Pass on my regars to Ian Peters and tell him that we're celebrating our 25th anniversary at Corus Brass Ensemble this year (how old do you feel now Ian??).

Besses from 2009 until 2018
It is only 9 years until the 2nd Centenary of this great Band.
The announcement of the appointment of the new innovative and exciting MD, Jonny Lo, and the return of Dr Roy Newsome to support the Band through its prestigious December Concerts, is great news.
Besses will strive to deliver good music and earn the respect of their peers and the whole brass band community.
We will do our very best to live up to the name of the bands playing as Besses, that have played before us.
We will try anyway!

Website
Great new website. Hope the band gets back to the glory days of the past. I was in the band from 1982 to 1987 initially on 2nd trombone and then for a longer period on solo trombone. I enjoyed some of the happiest days of my banding career. We had a phenomenal band and a great bunch on guys as well.

Voice from the Past
I enjoyed visiting the website. I played in both Besses Senior and Boys Band. I transfered to the senior band just before the 1959 victory at the Belle Vue British Open. At 14 I was the band's youngest member at Belle Vue. Other players included Ken Sanderson, Jim Cowburn, Frank Croft, Frank Johnson, Neville Taylor, Eric Willan, Frank Rigby, Freddie Howarth, Pat Edgar and Roy Ramsbottam. I stayed with the band until 1969/70.
I hope the band gets back to its former days of glory.

Nice to be on Board
Just a note to say that it is great to be a part of the Besses revival.
The Preston result was unfair and the Blackpool performance was way below what we were capable of.

Thanks
Hi Liam, Thanks for the comments, would have been nice for a higher placing, but the Man in the box didn't like our rendition.
I heard you guys play and it was a nice performance. It good to see a welsh band going strong. I used to play for Conwy, Rhyl and Northop, it's sad that some of the bands there are struggling and folding like Conwy did! Keep up the good work guys and good luck to you at the areas!!
