As many of you know the bandroom has been in a bad decorative state for quite a while. So with a little Interior Design a ladder cans of paint, brushes and one more ingredient, Hmm yes (The Team). Team, what team? well for a start there's Andy, Josh, Dave, Steve, Neil and Natalie and of course all workers need to be fed, so many thanks to our Flugel player Victoria for providing sandwiches.
The team decided to paint the the feature wall Brick Red this was chosen
to match the curtains, the other walls we painted Magnolia. The
stairs are to be painted grey, and the front door black and a new shiny
number two.
Day One. First we removed all the Percusion and chairs downstairs, and
then we started by stripping the walls of all the moss and salt that
had grown on them, we then applied PVA to one wall that we also had
to render with mortar to several bricks that had started to erode. Our
next task was to remove all the curtains, and then we set too washing
the other walls to clean of cobwebs, dust and other dirt. After this we
applied a base coat to all the walls and then let if dry overnight.
Day Two. Now we could put the paint on the walls and what a difference
it made, the room looked bigger, fresher and a lot more wellcoming, I
know this did not sound a lot but believe me it took several hours, then
we left it all to dry.
Day Three. We cleaned the carpets, touched up some paintwork and hung
the curtains back up that had been washed and re-hemmed by our
Treasurer Violet, and finally painted the stairs.
Day Four. The front door got a new coat of paint, and all the chairs and
percussion were taken back upstairs. We hung pictures in the bandroom,
and just tidied up after ourselves.
After several rumours about the picture of Alex Owen being downstairs
had brought bad luck on the Besses O' Th' Barn band it was decided to
have him hung back upstairs behind the MD in his rightful place so that
he could watch over us and and bring good luck. Also the Boars Head
that was donated to the band has been put on the opposite wall peering
over the Bass section.
Pictures of our nice new bandroom to follow.
